Fordham House Tour Information

Did you know?
Poe lived in the Fordham cottage from 1846 to 1849

The cottage was built ca. 1812 as a modest wood frame farmhouse, located about thirteen miles from New York City. It has been refurbished and restored by the Bronx Historical Society to represent 1840s New York life and Poe's life at Fordham. Three period rooms, the parlor, bedroom and kitchen are furnished in that period.

In 1902, New York City created Poe Park across the street, bought the cottage in 1913, and moved it to the park. At the time, it was administered by the Bronx Society of Arts and Sciences that restored it.

The Poe cottage was opened as a museum in 1917 and is administered by the Bronx Historical Society
